ALIH – Top Asian Ice Hockey League since 2003
In recent years, the league has faced challenges. Two seasons were canceled due to COVID-19, and following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Russian club PSK Sakhalin was expelled from the league – with both events contributing to a noticeable decline in the number of high-level import players. From three Korean teams, only one remains, while China had already withdrawn its participation as part of a strategic shift before the Beijing Olympics.
However, there are promising signs of revival. The arrival of Stars Kobe has injected fresh energy, featuring a fascinating mix of Japanese, Korean, and even Chinese players. Another encouraging development is the creation of the XHL, effectively serving as Japan’s second-tier professional league and a potential pipeline for future ALIH talent.
